Welcome to the Trail Mixed Mentorship Program

Building a community of women of color in the outdoors is a core component of Trail Mixed. Our mentorship program offers an opportunity for women of color with experience in a certain outdoor activities to share their skills and knowledge with those looking to begin or advance in that particular activity. In doing so, we can uplift fellow WoC and help break down barriers for WoC in the outdoors.

Mentorships can take many forms. Whether it serves to share experience, talk gear, recommended ways to get outside, or meet ups to #MixUpTheTrail together, these mentorships are a safe space to connect with other WoC.

Here's How it Works

Think of it like a dating app for women of color to inspire and learn in the outdoors!

Select  to be a mentor or to find a mentor using the buttons below. Tell us a little about yourself and what you're hoping to gain out of the mentorship program. Potential mentees can then search the mentor database to select a mentor.  Once they do, our team will connect you, so your mentee can reach out to you and begin the mentorship process.

This is a free service, but we appreciate any support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can participate in the Mentorship Program?

A: While all are welcome to enjoy the content on the Trail Mixed site, the Mentorship Program is only available to women of color. Our intention is not to exclude anyone, but rather to create a space, that is not often found, for women of color to share, learn, and uplift one another.

Q: Who can become a mentor? Do I need to be a professional athlete?

A: No professional athlete status needed! Any WoC can become a mentor, however we do ask that you have at least one year of experience in the sport you want to become a mentor for. While you don't need to be an expert, we also ask that you share your skills and knowledge with humbleness. Do not offer anything outside of your range in ability or that might create an unsafe situation for yourself or your mentee.

Q: What if I don't ~vibe~ with my mentor/mentee?

A: No problem! We understand that we're all out here looking for different experiences and personalities or styles don't always mesh. Kindly, communicate with your mentor or mentee that it's not working for you and thank them for their time. Both mentors and mentees can continue to find other opportunities on our mentor search page.

Q: What is the time commitment and what is expected of me?

A: The time commitment is completely up to the mentee/mentor to decide based off of what works for them. We do expect mentors to commit to at least one virtual or in-person mentor/mentee session a month. Mentorships can last a month to a year; it all depends on what you both want!
